Utah Test & Training Range

We spent the day experiencing a different aspect of military life. Since Art is a nurse, most of what we know is the medical side of the military. Although we have many friends who do other jobs in the Air Force, we don't know much about what they do on a daily basis. The UTTR is the largest land base training/bombing range in the U.S., 2,624 square miles in NW Utah & eastern Nevada.

We were able to see & experience the F-16's on bombing runs, watch a rocket test with a 60 sec burn, see a variety of EOD explosion and finally watch a 39,000 lb bomb explode. We were all impressed, of course experiencing these things up close was a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

A Simple Woman's Daybook -- Jul 28, 2008

Outside my window... The sun is coming up over the mountains, not a cloud in the sky. Maggie (golden retriever) is running through the sprinklers, she want to come back in soon.

I am thinking...About Art's retirement, moving to New England area, jobs, houses, and trying not to panic!

I am thankful for... My dh, 2 dc and hot coffee.

From the kitchen...Lasagna w/ salad and bread for dinner.

I am wearing...Grey gym shorts, bright blue tee and tennies. Haven't taken the time to change since working out this am.

I am creating...A scappy quilt picnic blanket from recycled jeans and working on our scrapbook from 2001 (better late than never)

I am going...Nowhere!! at least until soccer practice at 5pm.

I am reading...How to cheat at Organizing by Jeff Brendenberg

I am hoping...to get the chance to download the "Mamma Mia" soundtrack today and set a new workout playlist on my iPOD.

I am hearing...the kids chat about their dreams at they eat breakfast. Also, the F-16 have started flying already...the sounds of freedom!

Around the house...putting some new organizing tips to work in my zones this week (living rm and dining/entry). We have also started school already, so we will busy working & learning.

One of my favorite things...listening to my husband sing, especially when he is cantoring at Mass.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:school, field trip to the training range, getting the van in for service, and maybe a lazy afternoon by the pool.

Dino Park

We spent a very, hot day hunting for dinosaurs. The Dino Park in Ogden, Utah was loads of fun for all of us. All the dino displays are tucked into the trees, so you discover something new around each corner. We were thankful for all the shade. The Education Center was exciting with lots of coloring and some cool computer programs, but Art & I were most thrilled with the A/C. A New Beginning...

It is time for a new beginning. My last attempt at a blog page ended when my laptop had a run in with a magnet. So I have finally recovered and am ready to try again. I have decided to go with Typepad, so that everything would be saved off my computer and was accessible from any computer. Lesson learned. I look forward to reconnecting with some friends and family, as well as meet new ones.
